"Can hypnosis work on someone who is skeptical,
and how can I tell if I was hypnotized?" - Monique
You simply can not make someone relax if they
really don't want to. The process is not based
upon belief; however, it works better if you
fully participate. I have never had anyone in
my office, or listening to one of my tapes,
who ever told me they definately were not hypnotized.
Since I am a master hypnotherapist, I can see
physical signs of hypnosis; like slow, deep
breathing, skin palor, and R.E.M., so I would
know, even if you weren't sure. You might know,
however, if you experience catalepsy - not being
able to move your muscles. The more open-minded
and the less analytical you are, the easier
it is to relax and let go. My job is to find
and use the technique that works best for you.
"Is hypnosis dangerous, and, can you get 'stuck'
in it?"
- Mike
No matter what you might have seen on TV, you
positively can not get 'stuck' in hypnosis.
If you don't hear my voice for about five minutes,
or less, you would wake up. You weren't really
sleeping to begin with, just sort of daydreaming.
Your senses are about three hundred times more
acute. If it was your normal bedtime, or you
were extremely tired, you would simply drift
into a very comfortable sleep - probably enjoying
the best sleep you have ever had in your life!
(excellent in treating insomnia) Hypnosis is
very very safe, and you can trust an experienced
board certified hypnotherapist in order to have
a wonderful experience.
"Are stage shows real, and can you make me do
something that I don't really want to do?"
- Debbie
As an experienced certified stage hypnotist,
I can tell you that shows
are real, and people really do get hypnotized!
What you may not see, is that a stage hypnotist
has the luxury of dismissing unresponsive subjects.
On the other hand, I must work with everyone
who comes into my office! The people you see
on stage are having a good time, letting go
of their inhibitions, and enjoying themselves.
The truth is, subconsciously, they want to do
the hula, or act like a six year old. They usually
say "I felt as though I couldn't help myself!".
However, if I, or any other Hypnotist were to
ask anyone to do something that was against
their morals, or that they object to, they would
not do it. Unfortunately, this applies to someone
who tries to quit smoking, or make positive
changes, as well. In that case, they might need
sessions to increase motivation before they
begin the therapy that changes behavior.
"Can children be hypnotized?"
Yes, children are some of my easiest subjects.
They are usually in the "Alpha" state, so their
subconscious minds are always very suggestable,
and you must be very careful about what you
tell them. Pediatric Hypnosis is used quite
commonly for Asthma, bed-wetting, and nail biting
with excellent results.
"Is group hypnosis safe, or even effective?"
Group hypnosis has an efficacy rate of about
twenty percent. Some people are so suggestable,
that anyone could hypnotize them, and they were
highly motivated to begin with. But consider
this; would you really want just anyone to have
access to your mind? Where I practice, in Las
Vegas and Henderson Nevada, hypnotists are strictly
monitored, and must obtain a special Privileged
License in order to practice. Even Performers on
the Las Vegas strip require the same county
license that I have. Certification is important,
also, along with experience. Plus, when you
go to a group, it's not very personal. In my
office you are asked questions that are designed
to customize your session, and make it successful.
