Weight Control and Smoking Cessation
Regaining Control Of Your Life!

You may already realize that smoking is closely related to overeating, or eating incorrectly (as well as taking drugs or drinking alcohol). A lot of times a person will come in for private sessions and admit that they have started smoking again instead of overeating, or a more destructive habit. Some people gain weight after quitting the cigarette habit. In any case, cigarettes, food, or anything else is not the problem. These habits are merely symptoms of the problem, and are also the result of self-medication. And like any medication, they simply help to mask the true problem. In response to stress and anxiety, people will use just about anything to self-sooth. If you are hurting, you will probably do whatever it takes to stop the pain! In this case it happens to be emotional pain. It makes sense that before you can make changes in your life, you want to make sure you do not fall back into old, destructive patterns, and how that is done is by learning relaxation techniques followed by positive affirmations; in other words, by using hypnosis you will not gain weight or start smoking because you have learned how to relax. This is where the journey begins. However, if you were to begin any trip before you were prepared, you would be doomed to failure. Personal change is no differant. Another good analogy is painting or decorating. If you want to paint a fairly clean or brand new wall, all you would need to do is slap some paint on. A wall in good condition would need no extra work. A very damaged wall with lots of marks and holes would need lots of work before you could start painting. Just like that wall, before you can make changes in yourself; quit destructive self-medication; you need to eliminate negative thoughts. If you don't get rid of the negative, the result will be similar to a black mark that shows through the paint. You can use the word "cancel" to remove negative thoughts, and it usually works rather well, but what if the negative has been around for a long time? Just like that damaged wall, it will take a little extra time and effort; but everything that is worthwhile, is always worth the effort! Without cloudy days, you couldn't appreciate sunshine, right? However, you have most likely seen enough cloudy days, and by now you are really, really ready for the sunshine!

Preparing For Sunshine; Getting Rid Of Clouds By Taking Out The Subconscious Garbage

That black mark showing through the paint is similar to an "imprint" on your subconscious mind that holds you back from your goals. Imprints are simply ideas that you formed sometime in your life, and became imbedded, or imprinted upon your subconscious mind. You can be imprinted with new ideas or suggestions at any time. If you witnessed something traumatic; an accident involving a loved one for example; you might see the incident over and over in your mind, until your mind has accepted it as a fact. This fact might be that people you love get injured. You may have experienced abuse, or have been abandoned by a parent as a child, or even as an adult by a spouse. You might go on to develop relationship difficulties, and not even know the reason - causing you to overeat, take drugs, drink, or smoke. Negative imprints can hinder success in any area, (including losing weight, or stopping smoking) and are the reason for self-medication. They are, simply put, subconscious garbage; your own personal cloud of doom that effects everything that you do. Good and bad cannot exist in nature simultaneously, it is called cognitive dissidence. If you are miserable, you feel the opposite of being happy. If you want the good, you must first get rid of the bad. Get rid of the clouds, and "take out the garbage"! Bad habits were formed at futile attempt to create security, but good habits are more secure than bad ones. It stands to reason then, if you want to be happy, feel secure and have peace of mind, (not to mention, be healthier!) there is something you have to do; you simply must get rid of negative habits for once and for all!

Eliminating Sabotage

Your imprints have created a sort of world along with an inner dialog; the conversations that you have with yourself everyday that define who and what you are. Another name for this world you have created is "Personal Paradigm." This inner dialog can sabotage your best efforts of behavior modification. Sometimes your inner dialog can be reprogrammed by using uplifting, ego-strengthening suggestions during hypnosis. At times, however, more work is needed. There are many ways to release the influence of the past in your present life. Age Regression Therapy is one way. This involves becoming hypnotized, and being asked to go back to a time in your life when the problem was first observed. With your permission, those memories can be changed. New, positive memories will replace the old, harmful ones. For example, someone who was abused by their father could create a loving and attentive father with memories of a healthy relationship, rather than a destructive one. You, of course, will always be aware that this is a creation of your mind; one that you chose. In Past Lives Therapy, you travel back to a previous life. This therapy can be very useful. During one session, a man with unexplained, non-organic pain went back to a time when he suffered gunshot wounds during the Civil War. When he emerged, the pain was gone! A woman felt a sort of "strange feeling that someone is touching my hair" during differant times during the day. She found that in one life an old woman stroked her head as she lie in her lap. In every life, she felt the same sensation, and felt that it meant the woman was always with her. A young man was thinking about having an affair, but in another life he committed suicide, following his mistress. Since he already felt how painful the experience was for all, he did not go on to have an affair in his present life. These stories are not unusual. Many people, like the man with pain, realize that they do not have to repeat the behavior that may have began in another life. The quote, "Those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it" may apply to our own lives in a very real way.
